When to seek a consultation
Right upper abdominal pain, jaundice, dark urine or abnormal liver tests may warrant investigation. Fever with jaundice or severe pain needs urgent hospital care.
Assessment and options
Ultrasound, MRCP or EUS may be considered. Some patients need ERCP or surgery, depending on findings, clinical need and the hospital team and facilities.
What to bring
Bring blood results, ultrasound, CT or MRI reports, medication lists and previous surgical records. Do not stop blood-thinning medicines on your own.
Risks and symptoms that should not wait
ERCP is not required for everyone and carries risks including pancreatitis, bleeding, infection and perforation. The team assesses benefits and risks before treatment.
General information to support a consultation, not an individual diagnosis. Treatment outcomes vary.
